Hans G. Moen
November 29, 1912 - August 22, 2015
Hans G. Moen passed away peacefully after a wonderfully long and satisfying life at the age of 102. Hans was born on the Moen family farm to Syver and Betsy (Klevin) Moen near Roslyn, South Dakota on November 29, 1912. Hans was always very proud of his Norwegian heritage. Hans was schooled at the Saron School and attended the Saron Lutheran Church. Later in life he left the farm and became a mechanic. He met and married Dorothy Waddle in 1936, and after they moved west to the Spokane/Coeur d’ Alene area they had two children, Shirley and Richard. Hans continued his mechanic trade for many years at Knutsen Chevrolet in Coeur d’ Alene and Hayden Lake, Idaho. Hans began racing hydroplanes in the early 1950’s and won several awards, including a National ranking. Hans pursued another dream and in 1950 he and Dorothy, Shirley, and Dick moved to Bridgeport, WA where he started his own business as the local Texaco dealer. He added a boat marina to that and became a Mercury dealer. Hans loved to bowl and was active into his 90’s. He was also very active in the Bridgeport community and served on the city council several years. He also was a volunteer fireman and Chamber of Commerce member and Lake Woods Golf Course charter member. In the 1970’s Hans and Dorothy decided to build on the Bridgeport Bar and built a nice place on the Columbia River. Hans was an active volunteer in the Bridgeport Methodist Church for several years. He then started attendance at the Brewster Hope Lutheran Church until his death. Hans is preceded in death by his parents Betsy and Syver Moen, and his wife Dorothy, and Todd Heppner, a grandson. Hans is survived by his son Richard of Spokane, Wa, and his daughter Shirley Heppner of Kremlin, MT.. 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren.
