    Ann Gardner McLain

    July 20, 1949 - January 26, 2017

    Ann E. (Gardner) McLain, 67, passed unexpectedly in Manson, Washington on January 26, 2017. Ann was born in Danbury, Connecticut on July 20, 1949 to the late Jean M. Gardner and Albert C. Gardner. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Edward A. McLain of Anchorage and Willow, Alaska; her son Chris A. McLain of Bellevue, Washington; her daughter Kelly A. McLain of Brooklyn, New York; her sister Regina Gardner of Hamden, Connecticut; her brother Joseph Gardner of Danbury, Connecticut; and her brother William Gardner of Southington, Connecticut. After a career as a medical technician at Danbury Hospital, Ann toured through Africa. Ann then moved to NYC where she worked as a medical researcher at the Bronx VA Medical Center, and also attended Columbia University - Teachers College. This is`where Ann met her husband Ed. In her retirement, Ann enjoyed volunteering at the Anchorage Medicare Information Office and Alaska Regional Hospital. Ann and Ed moved to Alaska in 1980. Ann’s career spanned more than 20 years, teaching in Dot Lake, Mountain Village, Wrangell, Kenai, and Anchorage, Alaska until her retirement in 2004. Ann and her family’s travels included trips to Japan, Korea, Australia, Jakarta, New Caldonia, New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico, Canada and all 50 U.S. states. A service will be celebrated at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 120 E. Woodin Avenue, in Chelan, Washington on Thursday, February 2 at 3 p.m., with interment to follow the service at St. Andrews. Memorial donations may be made in Ann’s name to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104.
